Grim Fandango

Welcome to our 20th episode of Collab Not Multiplayer!! This time we celebrate the timeless classic, adventure puzzle game Grim Fandango! Grim Fandango was originally released on October 30th, 1998 so we just happened to have this game in our queue of topics to discuss at its anniversary! Originally published by Lucas Arts and now remastered and released by Double Fine Productions the game is available on several platforms including Steam and Nintendo Switch.

Our experiences with Grim Fandango extend from the 90s themselves, Giggleklutz playing it when it came out originally and the kids having it as a background family culture thing. We all played the 2015 remastered version recently and have big thoughts about why it holds up even today. The episode contains the mildest of spoilers and encourages you to play, too.

It’s a YouTube Playlist again!

So… I made you another YouTube playlist sharing some fun Grim Fandango stuff I found. Not a ton but I hope you enjoy it.
Videos 1-3 are Double Fine produced documentary videos about the remastering process they used to update Grim Fandango for its 2015 release.
Video 4 -8 Inspirations for Grim Fandango- talk about where the themes and images that became this classic came from.
Video 5- is a live session from E3 2018 where several members of the original voice cast act out scenes from the game while the soundtrack’s composer, Peter McConnell and several musicians perform, guest stars Jack Black. It’s a fun time.

Soundtrack!
Grim Fandango’s soundtrack by Peter McConnell was groundbreaking for its amazing cinematic scope. Grim Fandango would not be Grim Fandango without it.
I’m linking the soundtrack from Spotify and as another playlist from YouTube (not mine).

Our next episode covers the KillMonday Games: Fran Bow and Little Misfortune, it will be a heavy episode, with spoilers and very troubling subject matter. Listeners advised to take care of themselves as needed. We recommend playing Fran Bow to get the most out of the game, but watching a playthrough of Little Misfortune can get you the meat of what we will be discussing.
Thanks again for following along- Giggleklutz
